Ils sont h\u00e9berg\u00e9s avec des milliers d'autres oiseaux sans lumi\u00e8re naturelle et avec une mauvaise ventilation. Ils se trouvent dans des environnements extr\u00eamement surpeupl\u00e9s et arides. Au moment o\u00f9 ils sont abattus, chaque oiseau a deux pieds carr\u00e9s d'espace et les granges deviennent de plus en plus encombr\u00e9es \u00e0 mesure qu'elles grandissent. La liti\u00e8re sur les sols n'est pas chang\u00e9e, le sol est donc recouvert d'<strong>excr\u00e9ments<\/strong> provoquant une accumulation d'ammoniac.<\/p><p>En raison du stress de la surpopulation, de l'incapacit\u00e9 de se d\u00e9placer et d'exprimer des comportements naturels, des conditions physiques douloureuses et du manque d'ordre social, des comportements de d\u00e9tresse tels que le picage des plumes en r\u00e9sulteront.<\/p><p>Les dindes d'\u00e9levage industriel souffrent d'une \u00e9ruption de probl\u00e8mes physiques. Ils sont sensibles aux ulc\u00e9rations des pieds et \u00e0 la boiterie \u00e0 cause des sols humides et couverts de liti\u00e8re. Les dindes sont \u00e9lev\u00e9es pour prendre du poids tr\u00e8s rapidement et pour d\u00e9velopper de gros muscles de la poitrine. Les articulations de l'oiseau sont incapables de supporter leur poids. Leur c\u0153ur est stress\u00e9 et ils ont du mal \u00e0 respirer.<\/p><p>Les dindes sont soumises \u00e0 des pratiques d'\u00e9levage douloureuses. La pratique du d\u00e9becquage de la dinde est extr\u00eamement douloureuse et cruelle. Le bec de la dinde contient de nombreuses terminaisons nerveuses. Les dindes m\u00e2les ont leur snood enlev\u00e9. Les dindes ont \u00e9galement leurs ailes de vol coup\u00e9es, le dessus des orteils amput\u00e9 et la longue griffe \u00e0 l'arri\u00e8re du pied (\u00e9peron) retir\u00e9e. Ces proc\u00e9dures provoquent des douleurs \u00e0 court et \u00e0 long terme.<\/p><p>Des niveaux \u00e9lev\u00e9s d'ammoniac dans les \u00e9tables industrielles provoquent des infections respiratoires et des plaies. Les dindes souffrent de br\u00fblures caus\u00e9es par l'ammoniac aux yeux, aux voies respiratoires, aux seins et aux pattes.<\/p><p>Les dindes sont g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement abattues vers l'\u00e2ge de 16 semaines. A l'abattage, les volailles, pesant 15 kg, sont suspendues la t\u00eate en bas par les pieds\u00a0dans des fers m\u00e9talliques sur une ligne mouvante provoquant une douleur atroce. Les oiseaux sont destin\u00e9s \u00e0 \u00eatre \u00e9tourdis dans un bain d'eau \u00e9lectrifi\u00e9 avant d'\u00eatre \u00e9gorg\u00e9s, mais tous les oiseaux ne sont pas dans la bonne position pour l'\u00e9tourdissement et la coupe du cou, et certains entrent dans le bassin d'\u00e9chaudage (pour enlever leurs plumes) toujours vivants et conscients. Une m\u00e9thode de mise \u00e0 mort moins stressante est la mise \u00e0 mort sous atmosph\u00e8re contr\u00f4l\u00e9e \u00e0 l'aide de gaz inerte.
