CCFA commends Loblaw cage-free egg decision

May, 2011

In a major step toward more humane treatment of farm animals in Canada, Loblaw – Canada s largest grocer – has committed to making all its President Choice eggs cage-free by the end of 2011.

CCFA commends Loblaw for their leadership which will make a positive difference, improving the lives of thousands of laying hens in Canada.

CCFA has been advocating for cage-free eggs and crate-free pork with Loblaw since 2006 at annual shareholders’ meetings. This spring CCFA was invited to Loblaw’s corporate headquarters to discuss farm animal welfare. At this year’ s shareholders meeting, Loblaw released its Corporate Social Responsibility report outlining its cage-free egg initiative for 2011.
